TURNING A SURVIVAL JOB INTO A FOREVER JOB – JULY 16
Author: Claire Hurd
Some of you may have recently seen our very own Jason Harvey featured on KHQ for a WorkSource story. Jason’s story is both touching and relatable as his situation was echoed across the community during the peak of the pandemic.
Jason’s previous employment ended due to stressors related to COVID-19. Because of this, he found himself unemployed. As a family man, he enjoyed having the extra time at home with his kids. But, his drive and desire to work left him wanting more. He reflects, “I like working. It keeps me busy. Makes me feel younger.”
Jason then turned to WorkSource Spokane for assistance on finding a new job. WorkSource put listings in front of him that weren’t necessarily in line with his career path, but it just so happened that one of those listings brought Jason to Second Harvest where he works in compliance and safety. He says, “I’ll be here forever.” after finding his “survival job” turned into a “forever job”.
Requirements for maintaining unemployment benefits in Washington State currently call for proof of at least 1 approved job search activity each week. If you need assistance completing those job search activities, WorkSource Spokane would be a great place to start (we can testify!).

If you’re interested in working for Second Harvest, we are currently hiring for AmeriCorps positions in both our Pasco and Spokane distribution centers.
