THANKSGIVING TURKEY DRIVES AND VOICES OF HOPE – NOVEMBER 6
THANKSGIVING TURKEY DRIVES
Please note that the location for this year’s Tom’s Turkey Tuesday holiday meal box distribution (Nov. 24) has been changed to Spokane County Fairgrounds to accommodate a drive-thru style event. However, there will be an additional pick-up point at Second Harvest (1234 E. Front Ave.) for Spokane Transit Authority riders from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or while supplies last. This distribution location will be accessible only to transit riders and walkers; all others must receive their Thanksgiving meal box at the drive-thru distribution at Spokane County Fairgrounds. Click here for more details about this event.
Second Harvest’s Mid-Columbia and Yakima Valley Thanksgiving meal distribution days and locations also have been changed from years past. Distributions will take place on Monday, Nov. 23, at Sunnyview Park in Sunnyside and Yakima Valley College in Yakima, and on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Click here for more details about these events.
Although Second Harvest’s Thanksgiving turkey drives will look a little different this year because of the pandemic, we’re counting on our generous community for support to help ensure every family can gather around a full table this holiday. VOICES OF HOPE
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted everyone in our community. For some, it’s brought new financial hardships. People like Tammy are finding themselves turning to food banks for help. Here’s what she had to say about her experience receiving food from a recent Mobile Market distribution.
“(Second Harvest) has been a real Godsend. This is the first time since I was 16 that I didn’t have a job. I’m a single mom that doesn’t get child support. It’s very humbling to ask for help, and I’m very appreciative.”
