THANKSGIVING TURKEY DRIVES AND MOBILE MARKET – OCTOBER 23
THANKSGIVING TURKEY DRIVES
Even as COVID-19 continues to disrupt daily life in so many ways, you can make it possible for families to gather around their tables to celebrate the Thanksgiving tradition.
Spokane’s 21st annual Tom’s Turkey Drive will look a little different this year, but we’re counting on our generous community to support at least 11,000 Thanksgiving meals – a turkey and all the fixings – for people in need. We’re inspired by KREM 2, Rosauers and other generous sponsors, as now more than ever, Tom’s Turkey Drive is needed to bring hope to the tables of families facing so many uncertainties. As in past years, KREM 2 Chief Meteorologist Tom Sherry is leading this effort. Although we’re unable to host the traditional two-day drive in person at local Rosauers stores, the stores themselves will make it easy for their customers to donate by purchasing complete Thanksgiving meals for $20. You can also help by donating here. Watch for updates on the massive Tom’s Turkey Tuesday meal box distribution on Nov. 24 – drive-thru style at Spokane County Fairgrounds – on KREM 2’s website and at lavenderblush-pony-348297.hostingersite.com.
The fifth annual Mid-Columbia and Yakima Valley Turkey Drive will provide Thanksgiving meal supplies for 2,200 families. Your $30 donation will provide a box of food with the ingredients for a holiday meal, including a turkey. Three drive-thru distributions are scheduled: Nov. 23 at South Hill Park in Sunnyside and Yakima Valley Community College, and Nov. 24 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Click here to donate toward the food supplies for 2,200 meal boxes with all the ingredients for a full Thanksgiving dinner for Mid-Columbia and Yakima Valley families.
MOBILE MARKET
The Mobile Market continues to be a crucial strategy to help meet the increased need for food assistance due to the COVID-19 crisis, particularly in rural areas. A Mobile Market distribution in Othello on Tuesday, Oct. 20 served 300 families. You can read Columbia Basin Herald’s coverage of the event here.
