feeding hope: nita’s story
Nita had recently recovered from COVID-19 when she found herself in line for a Mobile Market distribution in Spokane. She had never been to a Mobile Market or food bank before, but the money she would normally use to buy food went to her medical bills after being treated for COVID-19.
“It’ll help reduce my food anxiety when I see there’s food in the fridge.”
A former nurse, Nita said she knows the crisis will get worse before it gets better, and that worries her—not just for herself, but also for the many families in her community struggling to make ends meet.
The food she received at the Mobile Market helped her worry a little less. She lives in a group home, and she was excited to be able to share the food with others in her house. “I won’t worry about the people I live with,” said Nita. “It’ll help reduce my food anxiety when I see there’s food in the fridge.”
