BEN FRANKLIN TRANSIT PARTNERSHIP, NEW USDA PROGRAM, MOBILE MARKET – MAY 15
PARTNERSHIP WITH BEN FRANKLIN TRANSIT
Second Harvest has partnered with Ben Franklin Transit in the Tri-Cities to better serve people facing hunger without access to a vehicle. On Wednesday, May 13, Ben Franklin Transit employees helped distribute 200 emergency food boxes to transit riders. Learn more about the partnership here and here. Ben Franklin Transit plans to host more distributions. Watch their social media channels and Second Harvest’s calendar of events for updates.
MORE CORONAVIRUS FOOD ASSISTANCE THROUGH USDA
Second Harvest will have more fresh food supplies to share throughout Eastern Washington and North Idaho thanks to the USDA’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). USDA is purchasing fresh produce, dairy and meat, and working with wholesalers and distributors to get pre-packed boxes of these products to hunger-relief organizations like Second Harvest. This will be an excellent source of fresh, healthy food for our partner food banks—the first line of response to hunger during this crisis. The CFAP food also will supplement our Mobile Market drive-thru free food distributions.
MOBILE MARKET
There will be a Mobile Market drive-thru distribution today at the Spokane County Fairgrounds (404 N. Havana St., Spokane Valley, WA 99202) from 4 to 7 p.m. (or while supplies last). About 1,000 families will be served. Click here for more details about the event.
Other drive-thru distributions earlier today included Yakima Valley College (up to 300 families) and Boundary County Fairgrounds in Bonners Ferry (up to 250 families). Thanks to all who are helping keep our Mobile Market rolling to increase free food access points for people in need during this time.
Our Mobile Market calendar continues to be updated with upcoming events. Please check back regularly for updates.
